a long flight, and even longer drive.. one pass off to a second driver… and we were dropped off on the side of a dark alleyway. my first reaction is this looks kind of creepy and i told my partner, if i am not comfortable i will want to leave
ten minutes later we walked down the long dark alleyway with our bags being dragged behind us….. landed in front of dark door.. it felt like i was going into a dungeon..
Just the opposite happened.. the doors opened wide with the most beautiful light airy view , ceramic tiles and carvings everywhere.. open to the sky above…. from the roof i could see the whole city of Fez
my heart starting beating heavily… i grabbed my camera , excused myself and found myself wandering up the alleyway alone. i had to keep in mind i did not know my way and coudl get easily lost in too numerous to mention alleyways
my eyes were drinking in all that was amazing and beyond belief in front of me….. i felt like i was in a dream.. that i had gone back in time…
donkeys were carrying leather…. the vegetables an fruits and olives were piled high.. ppl were in movement everywhere… everything was new and my eyes could barely process how much there was to look at. i literally was frozen and yet moving.. watching.. taking my first photos…..
i made my way up one or two alleyways and knew i could not go further on my own.. atleast not until i knew how to get back.. and what was the name of my hotel?
a. young man was watching me take photos and started to talk to me.. telling me he could see what i was interested in …and if i wanted any kind of guide he’d be happy to help…
I was cautious. told him i would have to tell my partner and see it that woudl be ok…. and what did he charge.. of which he said. let me show ou this medina…. and you can tip me what you want in the end….
this began my journey and the magic that is Morocco.. i did one sneak visit to a butcher and one little alleyway with him and then back to the hotel…
this place is beyond what the eyes can conjure… at least for me.. my partner bc dear friend with the guide. they would walk in front of me or lag far behind so i could do my work over a period of week… what luck to go with someone who lived ther eand knew every nuck and cranny .. and was not a typical tourist guide…
three weeks in various areas of morocco changed me.. it kept opening up to me each day in different ways.. there was never and ending to the discovery … it was endless and so were my lasting memories , impressions and a desirer to return to Morocco
