It's remarkable how we arrive at certain places in life; for me photography emerged haphazardly. You make a decision to do something new and it opens a window offering glimpses into possibilities previously unexplored. I'd been going through a particularly tumultuous time in my life and found myself struggling to find new meaning and peace. I set off on my own, camera in hand with the intention of doing nothing more than further explore a place I'd grown to love, the island of Jamaica. The camera was thrown in amongst the usual essentials with the sole purpose of being taken out now and again to encapsulate some lasting memories.

What ensued was something completely unexpected and a metamorphosis encompassing the years that followed. A few casual shots grew into an obsession. Capturing images became the center of my life. While out walking, heading into unknown territory, talking with strangers, the world around me would vanish. It was just me, and my camera and those within the focus and beat of my heart. I had absolutely found the greatest peace I'd ever known.

I'm a self-taught photographer, picking things up as if by osmosis. Shooting images comes from somewhere deep within. I actually feel something inside me awaken. It's as though something murmurs to me, that I must get up, and wander away from those I'm with, to shoot. It's like a sonar device, drawing me to the source. Where ever I am, my eyes blink like a shutter retaining images that I might have seen, but have missed. The most important thing for me though, is that flicker of human connection, that fundamental foundation that binds us one to another.

What does the future hold? I'm sure much like everything else involving my photography, the map holds many twists and turns that I will unearth only when I come around the next corner. That urge to travel and shoot is almost irrepressible. It's not where I will go, that list is long. It's when. My most recent explorations have been in New York City, Morocco, and Guatemala, with upcoming plans to be on the move very soon.
